Jesse/Sandra. Stick a fork in it.

Want the latest on Jesse James and Sandra Bullock? Me neither. It’s gotten to the point where the circus is spiralling out and down at the same time. Jesse did this, he slept with that, Sandra was gushing at the Awards Show and had no idea what was going on… blah, blah, blah.

We are now acutely aware of all the dirt and dust being stirred up by this simply because there is no place to hide from it. I turn on the news, there it is, I listen to the radio, there it is, the paper and the net. I too am now guilty of using this blog to mention it! I should have gone fishing today instead of sitting down to this blog. It’s a trap and I have taken the bait! The bait: Superstars and two businesses having dirty laundry aired in public. A fisherman doesn’t feel sorry for the bait.

The story about James and Bullock is, frankly, none of my business. I don’t care. James’ has his own life and made his own bed. I don’t believe everything the media is raking up, that would be silly knowing that the media is more about sales than the truth. Example: I saw one mutt on an entertainment news show (Inside Edition) pointing fingers at tattoos that one of the involved has… it’s an Iron Cross. The Iron Cross was used by the Nazi’s along with their bastardized religious symbols (yes… just look them up) at one particularly notorious time in the history of the human race but it is still used today. The Iron Cross was originally introduced in 1813 by Kaiser Frederic Wilhelm and designed by Karl Friedrich as a campaign medal awarded for acts of heroism, bravery and leadership. How the mutt on “The News Show” figured there was something sinister at work here, I dunno.

As far as Bullock goes… she knew the risks but these risks are with any person/relationship. What if she had been the one? Where would this story be then? You have to judge the character of your love interest for yourself and throw the dice if you wish. No one twisted anyone else’s arm here. Now people are wondering how the money will be split? If anyone thinks that money was not protected before the marriage then they are about as smart as tabloid reporters. Both people are easily worth 100 Million… each.

Enough with the hype of a marriage-gone south. There are more important things to worry about and I know you understand. There is only one person truly thankful that this has all taken place (aside from politicians who slip bills into laws when we are looking the other way) and he is back to work returning to The Master’s.

War Bikes

So I told you I know little about the whole blog thing and had no real interest in doing much with it. I don’t think there is that much to say daily that I need to even start another topic but today is different. Yesterday (Mar 15) my editor and friend, Tim Shamess, pointed me to a web site that made me tingle in the good place.

www.warbikes.com is one serious site to learn about building. War Bikes congers up images of Indians, Harleys, BMWs and Urals to name a few of the bikes popular during war time and I haven’t even gotten into Brit bikes here. I am thinking old iron cared for by geriatric wrench turning retirees that have little else to do their golden years than adjust points and place drip pans under bikes when not wiping down paint with a duster of some sort. How wrong I was.

The videos are free to watch and you can see them in the time it takes for the IP guys at the office to discover you watching a video and then actually scurry to your desk reminding you that ‘Big Cardigan wearing Brother’ is watching you and will rat you out if you don’t stop looking at bike porn instead of making cold calls. By then you can deny even being at your desk at the time in question and nod toward some poor schlub in the next cubicle.

War Bikes is the brain child of Ralph, a guy in Arizona… hold it, that is not entirely true. War Bikes is the show that they are building, the bikes are what Ralph builds using old plane parts to make accent bits and such. They are pretty cool and they are built mostly by hand but use CNC to get some detail work done. What has all of this got to do with anything? I have the chance to bring you the story on this show, the bikes and one very interesting cat. Ralph is straight up and busy! He has agreed to talk with me and in a coming article I will explain more about him, the bikes and what he and his TV friends are trying to do. American Chopper this ain’t. There is way more to this story. Tell your friends about the site. Look them up on Face Space and become a fan. Wait for the article in TMNews. I am going to try to put the bite on Shamess for 1,000 words and it still won’t be enough.

You starting to tingle yet?

Daytona news

Greetings.

I got an email today from my friend Vern at the Canadian Biker Build Off http://www.canadianbikerbuildoff.com/ letting me know that Fred and Francois of "The Rat Shop" http://www.ratshopcustombikes.com/ had picked up GOLD with "Spawn" at The Boardwalk Bike Show/Rat's Hole Custom Bike Show.

After getting the news I immediately posted the info on Face Space or My Book or whatever it's called only to be told that I should have posted a picture of the bike too. I guess I could have but not sure how and not really interested in learning either. You can see the bike at the link above anyway. It was a friend that lives in the U.S. that pointed the lack of pictures out and said that if there were no pictures then it didn't happen... he was joking of course and so was I when I told him we are sorry for bringing yet another GOLD to Canada... we'll have it bronzed.

All joking aside, this is a huge thing for the guys at Rat Shop and good on them for this great award. The fact that they are Canadian is just a nice bonus.

Winter! Spring is coming!

So we as a group at TMNews have been asked to blog. I know very little about this but that never stopped me before so bear with me and send your hate mail to the account listed.

First things first: Hello. I am Ken and I like bikes. I don’t memorize models and displacement and years of production of everything, I just like all bikes of all kinds and that’s about it. I like them quiet and I like them loud… it depends on the style of the bike and its lineage.

Today I want to celebrate Canadians and I have a few to mention. My friends at Rat Shop up in Quebec have some very cool news coming and I was told by Francois and Fred that I would have the exclusive when the news is to go public so stay tuned. Will the news turn the industry on it’s ear in the custom world? Not likely BUT it will open some things way up for many people. I am very excited for them and proud to be part of their circle of friends. These are good people and crazy creative.

Shaun de Jager, founder of http://www.roadawareness.org/ has been busy trying to keep people informed about all things deadly on the road including cell phones while driving. In Ontario we now have to be “Hands Free” and I still don’t think it’s enough. Cell phones while driving are a bad idea for the simple reason that most folks don’t understand that driving is way more important than gossip or whatever else people talk about. I once drove about 15kms on a cell when I first got it and swear I ran a red light and since have been quite limited in my use of them on the road. I have had to hang up on family when traffic got too heavy on a very stormy night while heading into Toronto. It wasn’t worth the risk to stay on the phone. Anyway, Shaun recently held a Media Awareness thing in Mississauga and had people show up and drive a course while on the phone. I wasn’t there for the event and Shaun had hoped for a better turn out but it’s a start. Shaun will be taking part and a cross country ride this summer and more on that in a moment.

My friend Belt Drive Betty www.beltdrivebetty.com is headed to the Warf Rat Rally in early August and leaving from Grand Prairie, Alberta for the September opening of The Warf Rat.She is joining with Mike Cole from the Winter Ride for Diabetes and picking up other riders along the way including Shaun de Jager. The Warf Rat Rally is out in Digby Nova Scotia and is Canada’s largest rally. Comedian Daryl Makk will be on the ride with stops in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, Sault St Marie and Barrie. From Barrie on to Toronto to join Shaun then to Petawawa, Ottawa, Montreal, Moncton and Halifax. Along the way the kids from the Bernice MacNaughton High School Bike Klub of Moncton and their Championship Motorcycle Bobber Sounds like a bit of fun and you can learn more by visiting. Ambitious!

So…. That’s my start and first post on the blog. If you want to… I am on Facebook (like what seems to be the rest of the planet) so look me up. Tell me about your bike nights and such. I really do want to hear about them. I mean that. Till whenever I can type on this tiny laptop keyboard again…. Check your tires for wear and your helmet for damage. Replace when needed. KV
